What is this study about?

We are researching cultural identity amongst individuals who had a mobile, international childhood (for example Third Culture Kids, Global Nomads,Multiple Migrants). The aim of the study is to explore belonging andcultural identity amongst individuals who experienced several international relocations during childhood. We're trying to find out whether having a mobile childhood leads people to struggle with questions such as 'where do I belong?' and whether things such as the number of passports you have, the number of languages you speak and the number oftimes you moved have any bearing on this.

Who can participate?

We are looking for participants who have:

a) experienced at least two international relocations before the age of 18 (e.g. a migration and a repatriation)

AND

b) spent at least a year and a half living outside of their country of birth before turning 18 AND

c) are aged 18 or over.

What will I have to do if I take part?

If you choose to participate you will be asked for some basic informationsuch as your age, gender and how many times you moved during childhood.Next, you'll be asked to read 14 short statements about identity andbelonging and rate how strongly you agree/disagree with each on a scalefrom 1-5.

In total the questionnaire has 23 questions which are quick and easy to answer. There's only one page to fill in and most of the questions requiretick-box answers. It only takes 5 minutes to complete.

There is no known risk associated with participation in this study.

Unfortunately we can't offer financial compensation for participation -but you'll be making a huge contribution to knowledge which could helpfuture generations who grow up in a similar way.

What about privacy - who is going to see my answers?

Only the principal investigator will have access to the data. We don't askfor any personal information such as your name, address or where you work,i.e. no information that could be used to identify you. Responses to this questionnaire are private and will be treated with total confidentiality. We are interested in group results which means that data will only bepublished in aggregate, anonymous form.

Will I get to see the results?
